About Us:

HYAA Elite is the Huntersville Youth Athletic Association’s travel basketball program. Our mission is to provide a competitive environment for student athletes that focuses on development on and off the basketball floor. Our program strives to provide our athletes with the highest level of coaching, mentoring, training, and support. At HYAA Elite we offer a 6 month Spring/Summer season for teams from 5th grade through high school. We also offer a 2 month Fall season for elementary and middle school grades.

  • Be Tough
  • When the going gets tough, the tough get going. All staff and players must operate with this mindset. 
  • Communicate
  • Communication is a form of respect. Great teams and great players have excellent communication. A quiet gym is a losing gym. All staff and players must strive to have great communication. 
  • Do All The Details
  • How you do anything is how you do everything. No detail is too small. The difference between good and great teams are the details. All staff and players must understand the importance of the details. 
  • Share The Spotlight
  • Our mentality as a program is we over me. The name on the front of the jersey should mean more than the name on the back of the jersey. We celebrate the success of our teammates more than our own. Players and staff must understand that team success always comes before individual success. 
  • Control Your Attitude and Effort
  • The only 2 things you can ever control in the game of basketball and in life is your attitude and effort. You can choose to have a positive attitude and you can choose to give it your best effort. All staff and players must operate with a positive attitude and their best effort.

  • HYAA Elite is a family. We value the importance of the brotherhood and building lasting and meaningful relationships through this game and through our program. All staff and players must reinforce the importance of the brotherhood. 

Director:

Riley Tilson – Currently serving his 5th year as director of HYAA Elite, played locally at North Meck, played 10+ seasons of HYAA, played 5+ seasons of AAU, has 3 seasons of HYAA coaching experience, 4 full seasons of AAU coaching experience, previous JV boys head coach and Varsity boys assistant coach at Lake Norman Christian High School, previously an assistant coach with UNC Charlotte men’s club basketball team while earning a Bachelor’s degree in organizational management at UNCC, current JV Boys head Coach and Varsity assistant coach at Mooresville High School. Riley is a young coach at 22 years old who can relate to his players, knows how to develop relationships with his players, and creates a competitive environment that fosters player development and winning.
